Almost everywhere I look, articles I read, words I hear, people say "oh, I'm voting for so and so because he/she is a Republican." Or, I'm a firm Democrat and plan to only vote for so and so because they are a Democrat.
Well, what about just doing the right thing? How about instead of listening to all of the negative television commercials, with each candidate bashing the other, taking pieces of sentences or words out of context in order to make it look and sound negative that you take the time, do the research yourself, really find out that person's record and then do the rate thing!
So many people make their choices based solely upon the television commercials that they see. Geez, you've got to know that the other candidate is going to do everything that they can to make the person that they're running against look bad. You don't seriously think that they're going to take positive comments, positive news reports, and say anything good about them do you? Why on earth would people make a decision based upon a television commercial.
We are inundated with commercials for candidates running for political office, each commercial rather than talk about what they will do or how they will do it they make promises that we all know they can't keep, but even worse the continuous bashing of the other candidate is sickening. And now on top of the candidates parties airing all of these negative tidbits, we also have all of these big political groups who have been given free reign to say anything they want and back whoever they want, all the while making false statements or once again using little snippets of conversations or speeches in order to make it appear that someone is a bad candidate.
I also hear people say "I am a Republican so I only vote Republican," or "I am a Democrat so I will vote for a Democratic candidate." Well how about voting for the candidate that will do the best job? How about going into their local offices, asking the hard questions that you need to know the answers for. Ask about those negative comments that the other party is making and to ask for the proof that they are untrue. Why do we have to be one party? Why does it have to be "us" against "them?" Why are the Democrats so worried about "losing numbers" so now they are out there telling the public what they want to hear, all the while distancing themselves from the President? Why are the Republicans so worried about "gaining numbers" so that they too are now out there telling the public what they want to hear and all the while bashing the President?
I won't say that I am a Democrat or a Republican, because I am neither. I am for the Candidate who I feel will do the best thing for our country. I can't say that I agree with everything the President Obama has done, but I will say that he is still dealing with the repercussions from previous administrations. And, I don't mean just the Bush administration, but those that came before him. The problems we have today have been caused by years and years of greed and ego, by years and years of having career politicians telling us what we want to hear, and all the while behind the scenes doing what will give them more power.
It's all just words... it's someone who wants power, and to get that power they are going to do and say anything that they can to make YOU, the voter support them. How about making them back up those words? How about we stop being manipulated by lies and believing what these people say because they know it will touch our hearts and push us into their direction?
